Riverfront Park, East Newark, NJ*
The Riverfront Park offers a unique opportunity to redefine the relationship between a community and a river in a neighborhood that currently has very little recreational areas built or planned. The entire site lies within the FEMA 100-year floodplain, along the shores of a polluted river that is targeted for dredging as part of a larger clean-up e ort. The goal of the project was to propose revitalization strategies that would benefit the community through the inclusion of passive recrea on open space, educa onal programming, and environmental litigation that added ecological, economic, and social value to the community.
Beatty Street Parklet, East Liberty, PA
Beatty Street Parklet is designed with two purposes. Firstly is to reopen the closed portion of North Beatty Street and secondly to work as a relocation for the East Liberty Farmers Market. On regular days, it is a neighborhood park with one-way vehicular lanes on either side. On Farmers Market days, the paved area will serve as pedestrian walkways while Farmers Market vendors line the parkway adjacent to the building and the central green area. Ground floor retail and live/work spaces will have an opportunity to participate in the market.
